I had to share this powerful story!
“Reagan’s Story: What if they think we stopped caring?
My name is Jessica. I have been a labor and delivery nurse for 15 years. Nine years ago I agreed to cover a shift for a co-worker and walked into our unit to find that a mother had just given birth and had made it clear that she was not taking the baby home. She was in fact trying to leave the unit before her epidural even wore off. I said a prayer under my breath and said, “Lord, if that is the baby you have planned for us then let it be…” It was if that prayer unleashed the very breath of God almighty. I walked into the nursery where the baby lay in the warmer and asked the pediatrician (and a Godly mentor to me personally) “What is going to happen to this baby, Joe?” Without blinking he said “You guys have been trying to have a baby…why don’t you take her?” That began a 2 hour unleashing of the spirit of God that opened the door for my husband and I to adopt that beautiful baby. There is so much more to how all of the details came together but I am afraid you will stop reading and miss the rest the rest of the story which happened this very week.We named that precious child Reagan. She has such a passion and heart for God. I recently had to explain to her what abortion is. She wept with such compassion and anguish it was as if she had seen one personally! To console her I reminded her of her own story. Of how one woman said NO to abortion and carried the pregnancy and delivered her at my hospital allowing God to plant her in our lives. This past Monday we planned to attend the Right to Life March in Atlanta. She was very excited. When we woke up to a VERY rainy and cold morning I said, “Reagan, do you really want to march the streets of Atlanta today in the cold, wet, rain?” She said, “I don’t know mom, will it stop abortion?” I said, “Well, it hasn’t for 40 years”… She paused and said, “Well, then I guess we have to go…..what if they think we stopped caring? What if GOD thinks we stopped caring?” As she gathered her things to head to the car I stopped to wipe tears as I wondered at how God can speak through a child. We arrived at the capital and Reagan had made a sign to carry. I was marveling at how so many people were stopping to take her picture. At how people were just drawn to her and the story she had written on her sign. Even the legislators and Senators were snapping photos. Our local paper ajc.com interviewed her and put this picture on their web site.”

As someone who has an adopted baby sister who might have been aborted should her mother have not put her up for adoption, I condone this message. Fully and truthfully.Life is a God-given blessing. It’s no one’s right to take it away.
